Avast is enough for spyware and malware?
Firstly, i would like to know the differnnce between spyware and malware..now here is my problem..i use a windows 7 home premium.. have had avast installed since a year or more...it keeps updating its virus database, and the program..so i assume its the latest version at the moment..i use torrent to download files...therefore, to view screenshots, i am directed to many pages that contain the shots....secondly, my parents use the net and emails..they are not very educated about the internet viruses etc, so im sure they would have had clicked on spam links atleast once..i conduct a quick scan on my pc using avast, it finds no viruses or anything harmful.. then a week ago, i also did the scan of my c and d drives using avast..the full scan i mean..again nothing was detected..i also have ccleaner on my pc..i used it before the scan....now i would like to know if my pc could would be infected because of the links i check for screenshots..and if yes, how to detect and remove the infections viruses malware spyware..is avast free version reliable in this?

I got rid of a spyware virus, but I'm still getting pop ups. Help!?
I got a virus called " Win 7 Spyware Antivirus" and get rid of it with Kingsoft PC Doctor. I don't see the virus anywhere on the taskbar and it doesn't pop up anymore when I turn on my computer. My only problem is that when I try to use Google all other search engines work and click on a link, it changes the URL to some other search engines that are sketchy. Can I get this to stop happening?I have windows 7 and use Firefox if that makes a difference.

With the news that Facebook is supposed to be launching a share issue, the BBC News said that Facebook sells information it gathers from peoples' profiles to sell to advertisers etc, and that is how Facebook is funded and why it is free to users.To me it seems that this is just a new form of spyware or phishing. I am using Mozilla Firefox version 9.0.1. My anti virus system is Panda Internet Security 2011, and my OS is Windows 7. HP Compaq Presario C700, so it's a few years old now.A few weeks ago my computer had a bit of a spastic attack including seemingly heating up a little then turning off, but that might have been due to me not updating all the things Windows Update tells me to update. Updating it etc seemed to solve that problem.My browser seems to be running a little slow and Not Responding fairly often, but not actually crashing. I don't think Panda is automatically updating itself properly, but I made it do a thorough scan yesterday and it didn't find anything.My computer was a part of a network, but the network was saying my computer didn't have an anti virus program running, so the network owner decided to remove me from the network....The Windows Action Centre which I just checked to see if there was a conflict in firewall anti virus programming just said that Windows Defender needs to scan my computer?I've looked through the processes of all users so me, System, etc , and nothing looks suspicious. Except that there are multiple svchost.exe processes which is normal, right? , and when you go to Open File Location, it gives the same location for all the svchost processes is that normal? .The firefox.exe process is pretty big using a fairly large whatever 250,000ish for not doing much?So, do these things indicate an issue like that, and if so what should I do? I'm going to update Firefox to 10 and see if that makes a difference.
